Rating (30%)

This is the business's aggregate star rating on Google. It carries the most weight because it is the single most direct summary of how past customers felt. A groomer with a consistently high rating across many visits is a safer starting point than one with wild swings.

Sentiment (25%)

Star ratings alone can hide a lot. A place might sit at 4.2 stars while recent reviews complain about a stressed pet or a missed cut. We use an AI synthesis of recent review themes to separate praise from complaints and turn that into a sentiment signal. This is the second-largest factor because what people are saying right now matters more than a headline number.

Volume (20%)

A single five-star review tells you almost nothing. Volume measures how many reviews a business has collected, scaled logarithmically. That means the jump from 5 reviews to 50 counts for a lot; the jump from 500 to 550 counts for very little. This keeps a business with hundreds of reviews from running away from a genuinely good newer one.

Recency (15%)

A groomer that was excellent two years ago may have changed ownership, staff, or standards. Recency rewards businesses whose customers have reviewed them recently, so the score reflects current performance rather than a faded reputation.

Completeness (10%)

This measures whether a listing has a phone number, website, opening hours, and a full address. It carries the least weight in the score, but it is still a practical quality signal: a business that keeps its public information accurate is more likely to be reliably run.

Honest limits of our data

Businesses with few recent reviews get a low-confidence score, and we label them as such in the directory. A low-confidence label does not mean the groomer is bad; it means we do not have enough signal to rank them with the same certainty we have for busier, well-reviewed places.

We synthesise review content rather than republishing individual reviews verbatim. For the source reviews themselves, we link directly to Google so you can read them yourself.

Rankings are earned, not bought
